Summer Wedding Dress Styles for Every Bride

In some ways, summer brides in Chicago pretty much have it made — it’s only the first day of June, and we’ve already seen a handful of 80-plus-degree days — and who wouldn’t want their big day filled with sunshine? A summer wedding gives you a lot more venue options and possible wedding themes, yes. But you have to be just that much more conscientious with your choice in wedding dress. What’s comfortable, what’ll keep you cool, what’s on trend, and what’s appropriate for those balmy days?

Here’s a list of some of our favorite bridal styles and trends for making the most of your look this season.

Lightweight fabrics.

You don’t even have to give up on lace or detail to enjoy this one. Our advice? Put back the satin and go easy on the starch. Crepe is perfect for a summer wedding, and we think it’s pretty universally flattering. Any material that “drapes” easily should let you enjoy your wedding day without suffocating your skin.

The Venice dress from Marquise Bridal isn’t too heavy.

Long sheer sleeves with a retro flare feel make this high-necked gown summery and fresh almost in spite of itself, from Marquise Bridal.

Off-the-shoulder anything.

Our money’s on this trend, big time. We might even go so far as to say it’s the 2018 answer to the mid-2000s plunge-front style. It’s romantic, effortless, and fresh for summer.

Or no “shoulders” whatsoever. Strapless and loving it.

Gone are the days of tabooed limb exposure. Whether you want a more modest look or plan to go all-out glam for your wedding, there’s a strapless wedding dress very much up your alley. Many wedding dresses limit your natural arm movement, so this bridal style is a perfect choice for any avid dancers out there (or really any bride who just wants to be able to move freely).

This daring gown from Maison Yeya hits the high-low trend just right. Extra points for any wedding dress that uses color, too.
Ralisa from Atelier Pronovias gives the strapless look without sacrificing extra support offered by its sheer collar.

You don’t have to compromise on your summer wedding dress.
